      OUR VISION: LEGACY PROJECTS

      LAURIE BROWN: AN ARTIST PORTRAIT

Official Trailer for the Short Documentary Category (20 min)

      Newport Beach Film Festival 2025
Screening @ The Lot in Fasion Island, October 19, 2025 (11:00AM)

LOGLINE: Artist Laurie Brown in conversation with LA art critic and author Suzanne Muchnic reflect on Brown’s dedication to panoramic photographs that document the transforming of Southern California and Nevada landscapes at the dawn of environmental movements.

      LONG SYNOPSIS

Laurie Brown, (b.1937-) together with art critic Suzanne Muchnic, reflects on her forty year dedication to photographing the transformation of landscapes in Southern California and Nevada.

Her focus is the migrating boundary of human marks and pristine land. As a result, her artwork reveals a mythic vision of the earth as it morphs under the impact of industrial scaled human action.

Strong individually, it is in their totality that her images have true narrative power. She refrains from moral judgement and gives space for viewers and time.
Fifty years after her first photographs were created, the context in which we interpret them has changed dramatically. Suzanne Muchnic reflects that “dirt”, once overlooked and deemed insignificant by Brown’s contemporary critics, carries a weighted interpretation today. Her vision is more prescient than ever.
